1) There are three main different types of selection process’s which I use within photoshop, depending on what type of subject matter is within the photograph and how complex the selection process is with the subject. This first process is with the use of “Quick Selection tool” which has a simple selection process of moving the mouse over the subject you want to select whilst holding down left button on the mouse. Once you have taken your finger off the mouse button, to make more selection of the subject, holding down shift whilst selecting will add more to the selection and holding down Alt will remove any access selection which has gone over the edge of the subject.

2) This second selection process is using the “Magnetic Lasso Tool”, this selection process is for subject matters which have no complex detail which involves jagged lines or lines and angles which are not straight and have unbalanced angles. This selection uses a magnetic selection process, where Photoshop automatically finds a line as a contour to follow through the selection process, this is why this process is used for straight or simple angles, as Photoshop will go off course with the selection if it finds any complicated objects. Also, if there are two objects next two each other, and attempt at selecting one object is made, the magnetic tool will often jump from one object to the other. The “magnetic lasso tool” uses points throughout the process 1/2 – 1cm apart to make the selection, a manual point can be made during the selection process for complex lines by left clicking at a point.

The “lasso tool” or “Polygonal lasso tool”can be used instead of the magnetic lasso tool for more accurate selection or manual selection where the user has more control over what is being selected, although a steady hand is needed for the lasso, whereas the Polygonal lasso works with creating selection through lines.
