Master of Electronic Art

My interest in electronic arts lie particulaly in the documentation of performance art.  I am also interested in incorporating audience participation through elctronic means within perfomance art.  Artists such as the Kingpins, who use costume, humour, dance and music influence my art heavily, and their use of film in documenting their performances are engaging and refreshing in that they end up becoming just as important as the performance itself. I hope to learn to use Flash this next half of the semester to document some performance pieces that are will be theatrical and humouress in commenting on different ideas of gender.

Lenny- With a million dollars…
It would be fair to say that with a million dollars or whatever, i would travel. I would most certainly buy a lot of high tech equipment and a studio space to work in. I would probably further my studies, work on projects that I’m passionate about and fund some gallery exhibitions so i could try and sell my work. Depending on how well that turns out… maybe move to New York and try my luck there.
I would also be really interested in living in Melbourne for a while, collaborating with artists there and possibly getting a tattoo apprenticeship. I love the graffiti culture, i would love to work with someone in that field, even pick up a few tips and try something my self.

I’ve been thinking about how i can relate this semesters theme with what i want to do… and something that really interests me is the idea of escapism. Just recently i watched requiem for a dream and, to say the least, i was really moved by it. I suppose what I’m getting at is, in this day and age there is so many things happening in the world, things like the global financial crisis, war, this extreme reaction to swine flu… and these things have got everyone in a panic. I want to kind of explore a world where these things don’t necessarily matter, where these things don’t exist, or if they do… “there’s only one cure…”
When i think about escapism, i think of drugs, masked people, dream-like realities… and delusion. And not necessarily in a bad way. So in saying all this, I’m working on creating a movie that expresses this idea of escapism. This reaction to reality.

I really like the way this old image of heroin, back when you could buy it like any other pain killer, is formated into a pop art type image.

I started media art last semester and worked on a short video and a sound project. The only experience I’ve ever really had with creating my own music or sound effects, my own movie video type things… would have been when i first got my digital camera and thought, “shit, I’m like Tarantino right now.” Hardly, as it turns out.
But i did have a ibook lap tap… and a couple of software programs at my disposal that i thought wouldn’t hurt to use, just for my own self indulgent bullshit creative brain farts.
And now… i would like to humbly explore all these strange little thoughts and ideas buzzing around in my brain fluids. Maybe make something explosive… something odd, something I’ll be mildly proud about.

this is my comparison of photograhps before at after the use of photoshop.  Also when asked the question, what piece would i make if had any amount of money in the world, it would have something to do with light and sound.  creating a massive indoor space, dim atmosphere, and neon lighting of some sort, with repitious music playing. ground covered in grass or some sorta soft matress, cloud-like floor. so that poeple can get lost in the moment.
