Electronic Art 3rd year

Alan A. - Hypothetical ‘Artwork’

With unlimited funds to create a contemporary Electronic Arts piece - I would utilize the funds provided and create the real world into a virtual reality on a large scale; hiring contractors and people to measure room dimensions, gather up floor plans of places I am usually at eg: home, University, Parks etc. I would create these virtual realities that respond to the time of day eg: if it were day, the scene would be bright - if it were night, the scene would be lit up by streetlights and moonlight. However, there would be a twist to the virtual world that I create.

If i had unlimited funds i would create a form of time travel which would enable the user to travel back in time to a destination of their choice. the user would enter a sphere shaped room which is mounted on a frame, allowing it to rotate as the user moves within the ball, giving the effect of walking. the internal space of the room would be transformed into the destination of choice, through a series of projections, allowing the user to experience past history in a digital space, complete with atmospheric conditions (temperature, wind, precipitation, etc). upon entering this virtual world, they would be immersed in a virtual reality and would be able to function as though they were in a real world situation (talking and interacting).

The IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality

Wed, Oct. 13 - Sat, Oct. 16, 2010

COEX, Seoul, Korea

  • Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) allow the creation of fascinating new types of user interfaces, and are beginning to show significant impact on industry and society. The field is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together signal processing, computer vision, computer graphics, user interfaces, human factors, wearable computing, mobile computing, computer networks, displays, sensors, to name just some of the most important influences. MR/AR concepts are applicable to a wide range of applications. Since 1998, ISMAR and its forerunner events, IWAR/ISAR and ISMR, have been the premier forums in this vital field.
  • This year we are proud to present the 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR 2010). The symposium will be held on Oct. 13-16, 2010 at COEX, in Seoul, Korea. We invite you all to participate in this great event for the exchange of new ideas in this exciting field!

Michelle-Hypothetical piece

If i had unlimited time, money, technology and resources I would create a very large scale animation(stop motion). The animation would be filmed in a 360 deg view, with 4 sets of stop motion one for north, south, east, west. The stop motions would then be projected onto 4 walls of a room, so that when the viewer stands in the center of the room they are surrounded by a moving space. The viewer will be able to look around as if actually being in the space, seeing all around them. The piece would be accompanied by sound, which will relate to the video. Sensors would be placed around the walls, so that when the viewer moves toward the walls, it will change the video that is playing on that particular wall, not to something completely different but a fantasy element, or subject will appear in the original video. A viewers interaction with the space is therefore necessary to provoke imagination to take part in the realistic video scene around them.
